Indian democracy is one of the strongest in the world. It has wonderfully fuelled the growth of India as a super power. For single party democracy to multi party democratic alliance, the transformation was fruitful. The Indian sentiment is strong enough to hold the natural and cultural diversities of India. At the same time it has given birth to strangest of systems which make people wonder whether this is possible in a political system. One among them is the recent occurrence in Meghalaya. Meghalaya now has two chief ministers. One is D D Lapang and other party’s state unit chief Lyngdoh. Lyngdoh was earlier the deputy chief minister in Lapang’s government. Now his status has been upgraded to that of Chief Minister. The funniest part is, it is legal in12 member government. Lapang will hold the responsibilities of Chief minister and Lyngdoh will stay in an advisory capacity.
