    I'm trying to add my telephone number to the BSNL account screen, but it asks me for the SSA or STD Number.

    I live in Chennai and the STD number is 044, but neither is in the list of Tamil Nadu! Seems like every city and village is in the list, but not Chennai.

    Has anyone else had this experience?

    @OP

    Chennai and Tamilnadu are different telecom circles :) That's why you can't find.

    Thanks for that. I'd already tried to register there but it says my customer number is invalid - and it's not. It's accepting it in another page, but not on that one!

    But in the list of telecom circles, there are only 18 choices which are the States of India. Tamil Nadu is the only one that seems relevant :(

    @bhagwad
    It is not the STATES that matter ( are you sure about the States count 18 ?), but the CIRCLES BSNL have created
    Usually NCR Delhi/MUMBAI/Kolkatta/Chennai/Hyderabad
    etc tend to have different web sites for customer service online service etc.
    The consumer number is what is shown in your telephone bill
    See top of the current bill Boxes.
    Consumer No. mine has 11 digits 0530110xxxx

    Luckily they have not added Broadband usage like other cities/towns here.
    Any way any day Chennai BB users also will get a selfcare page to check BB usage.
    INDIA : 28 States and 7 U.T

    [Grammar : Names of places to start with
    Capital letter : Mumbai instead of mumbai

    My apologies to you.
    Another Blunder: Chennai and Kolkata( Kolkatta)

    From post 3
    BSNL Portal || Telecom Circles Directory
    Use full quote from my post. Selectively using word here and there, context is lost.
    Dont take a word here and there.

    If you feel Mumbai can be typed as mumbai , and is not a grammatical mistake ;no problem. You know better English! Again apologies.
    and Chennai is a telecom circle. Agreed.

    Now @Hackdown may add his comments !!!!!
    and
    @moderator will delete all posts from Post 5 for spamming the thread!

    Now after your post ,
    I cannot even mention the word grammar to any one
    I can afford/employ a teacher for my kids.

    Thanks for the advice.!
