    Hello everyone,

I have always used wireless internet connections in the past. I have used Tata Photon, Reliance NetConnect+ etc. It's the first time when I decided to get a broadband.

I applied for the MTNL Broadband Service on 7th October, now it's been almost 20 days and I haven't got a broadband connection yet. I applied for a wi-fi modem in their form and I guess they don't have it in stock.

I am planning to buy the wi-fi router etc. But I am not familiar with stuff, can you please tell me what all will I have to buy to setup a wireless MTNL broadband connection?

I will really appreciate if you could give me an idea about the estimated price of modem and everything.

    Additional Information -

I have opted for a 1MBPS Plan and I am living in New Delhi.

    Cheers.

Have you opted for MTNL MODEM/wifirouter
on outright purchase or on rental basis.

    2.
    For Landline based Broadband connection
(a)we need an ADSL modem + wifi router
    or
    (b)A combined adslmodem+4portLAN+wifirouter
    3. Please
check this site for more details and types.

I have opted on a rental basis, but it's been 20 days and I haven't got any positive response from them. So, I am planning to buy the required hardware.

Thanks for the reply mate, I'll appreciate if you could suggest me some particular model and I will be glad if you could give me an idea about the cost of that model.

    Thanx again.

Thanks for the help, is that all what is needed to set up a wireless broadband connection?

I just have one more question, I have a budget of Rs.1500-2500 for the modem and stuff, can you just name an all-in-one product which could actually help me in solving my problem and it will be good if it is an easy to find hardware so that I can buy it from the market itself.

    Cheers :D

Please search in the ebay web sites for your requirement. ( 3 in One model)
If you need greater range ( say above 30 feet radius ) the unit's cost will go up.
Note the prices and try in local electronic market.
Netgear/Dlink/Belkin/Linksy' s/Buffalo/ASUS are some of the brand names.
    ( mostly all Made/Assembled in China !)

If you are getting ADSLmodem+4portlan+wifi router ( 3 in one model)
from MTNL on rent or Outright purchase consider it.

Your laptop MUST have a built in WLAN card or you have to buy a
    new unit extra.
Or Desktop needs a wifi PCI card.

Thanx for the quick reply, well my laptop does support Wi-Fi but my PC doesn't and I guess if I set up a wireless connection at my home, I'll be able to access internet on my laptop without any wire, however I won't mind plugging-in a wire in my PC.

I am about to buy an iPhone 4, so a wi-fi network is a must.

    Cheers.
