Goodbye to Facebook Lite!

    It might have been disheartening for many, as Facebook, the social networking giant announced the withdrawal of a lighter version of the site. Facebook Lite, when it was launched might have given sigh of relief for many internet users (mostly those in the developing countries), enabling them to access the social networking site using low bandwidth internet connections, with ease.

    Facebook Lite was expected to serve the needs of those internet users who don't enjoy having so much content around in the web-pages. It was mainly aimed at the internet users of the developing countries. It was tested out in many countries including India. After running for just about 7 months, Facebook without any proper expalanations, decided to withdraw Facebook Lite. The only explanation that they gave was, “Thanks to everyone who tried out Facebook Lite. We're no longer supporting it, but learned a lot from the test of a slimmed-down site. If you used Lite, you'll now be taken to the main site.”

    Facebook Lite was similar to the version of facebook accessible from mobile phones, which allowed users to post comments, accept new friends or view photos. Facebook launched the 'lite' version of the site, back in September 2009. Facebook Lite offered access to almost all the core functions, while only the applications by developers were excluded from the functionalities available to it's users.

    Now, the old users of Facebook Lite will be redirected to the main site, that is,
