    Hi guys,

Just wondering if any of you out there have experienced or seen this kind of a thing off late with your broadband connection.
In case you haven't, I'm hoping to get some feedback on what might possibly cause this strange thing.

Note: The post proved out to be a bit lengthy as I wanted to give out as much details as possible. So please read through with patience and let me know if any part of it is confusing !

To begin with, I use the ITI DNA-A211-I model router configured in bridge mode recently. (Forum members "Essbebe" and "meetdilip" would remember this and my post regarding fake BSNL sessions earlier this month)

Let me list out the problems that I have had in the last 2 days since I believe they might have something to do with the strange problem that I see now :

    1. Since I have my router configured in bridge mode, I have scheduled the dialer to dial the connection at 2:05 AM for the downloads to start and a disconnect command has been scheduled to take place every morning at 7:55 AM. Everything went on well until the past 2 days wherein I notice that the connection gets disconnected automatically at anytime between 7:00 AM to 7:20 AM itself. I really don't see a practical reason behind this. The DSL light is stable yet the Internet (dialer) is disconnected. I have set the redial option too to take place in case of a disconnection.
Although not much of a concern, I'm still wondering how could this be?

    2. Since yesterday (Sunday) morning, my ShaPlus bandwidth meter stopped functioning or stopped tracking my network usage. I tried restarting the application, but it would not track the bytes exchanged for some reason. I have set it to ignore only the data transfer during the night unlimited 2 AM to 8 AM. But the same behavior was exhibited in today's day time too. How?

    3. This gets a bit serious. (Not as serious as the main issue that I'll discuss a bit later down)
In bridge mode, although the LAN connection exists, my internet (usually and technically and normally) will and should work only once the dialer is connected. Correct? But since Sunday morning my internet did not stop working even after I disconnected the dialer !!! How in the world ? Connecting / Disconnecting the dialer had no effect.

I then switched off and restarted the router and it was functioning okay. (Meaning the internet did not work without connecting through the dialer) But once I disconnected the dialer after few hours of usage, I was still able to browse the internet just with the LAN connection alone being active..?!??!

If all this has left you confused, listen to this main issue. Since my bridge mode was not working as it was expected to, I thought maybe something was reset from BSNL's side to make it a pppoe connection maybe and wanted to give the router page a look.

Once i typed in 192.168.1.1 and hit enter and enter the admin login, the entire router page looked all the way too different with a blue background and the word "Teracom" was displayed in the top right corner. Though surprised, I was not shocked as I thought some upgrade took place from BSNL's side. Only after a bit of "googling" I came to know teracom was a router just like ITI was ! So, I was wondering how come a different brand / router make's configuration page is showing on mine ?

Just to be sure, I tried switching off the router and restarted it again... and.. guess what . This time the usual ITI router page with the white background came up ! ---> Pls. refer screenshot "actual iti router.JPG" of that page attached.

I thought I missed a chance of taking a screenshot earlier of the teracom page. But was in for a surprise again. Just opened a new browser window and typed in the router ip and this time... The Teracom router page background came up but with an error message ---> Pls. refer screenshot "router page error.JPG" of that page attached.

Once again I just refreshed the webpage and the teracom router page showed up :confused::(
(Please note, i did not restart the router this time. It was the SAME connection. Just opening the router page on a new browser window gave me these 2 different pages) ---> Pls. refer screenshot "teracom router.JPG" of that page attached.

Notice the ip address displayed on the router page?

I had a very mad thought that I was seeing some other guy's router page on my system. So just to clear that out, went to "www(dot)whatismyip(dot)com" and that.. for god's sake... SHOWED A DIFFERENT IP ADDRESS !!!!!!!!!!! which i'm sure was my actual ip ----> Pls. refer the screenshot "ip.jpeg" of the page.

Note: Both the ip's were tracked during the same session only. I did NOT disconnect the dialer or restart the modem that would naturally change my ip. Both screenshots were taken one after the other within a few seconds.

One more thing that forces me to believe that I was seeing somebody else's router page is the fact that there was a difference in the line rate between the 2 router pages. Ever since I had iptv installed, my upstream/downstream rate have been (theoretically) 508/6140 as you can see in the ITI router page screenshot that is attached but these values were totally different on the Teracom page that I saw ! (468/1937) as you can see for yourself.

How could such a thing be possible guys? I thought its important that I mentioned the 3 other problems as well before telling the main issue as they might have something to do with this strange problem.

Kindly enlighten me on this. I'm not going to use my connection any further until I sort out this crazy thing :(

Use this PPPOE Dialer instated of Windows default Dialer
    http://www.raspppoe.com/index.html
Download and install it, it could may prevent the auto disconnection.

For IP TV and for the plan above 2Mbps speed users need to set their Modem Adsl mode to ADSL 2+

In your ITI router the ADSL mode set to ADSL2+ thats why your modem shows this value 508/6140
and in your Teracom router the adsl mod does not set in ADSL2+
To get 508/6140 set your ADSL mode to ADSL2+

    Hi Indranil,

Thanks for replying but then I guess you have not got hold of my problem clearly..! I dont have any teracom router with me. I only have one router (ITI) and one BSNL dataone connection.

But on the 192.168.1.1 page , instead of seeing my ITI router's configuration, I see some other router's configuration page with an altogether different ip address. Which I believe is a very serious issue.

Pls. let me know if you need any further clarification....

    001.
Disconnect your modem from BSNL junction:
    Check 192.168.1.1
confirm which model /make/ you see in Device info.
( Ip address will be blank )
    002.
    Connect to Internet.
    Same as above.
Check Ip address seen in Device Info.
    003
check you "Dynamic Ip " here.
    whatsmyip.com
    004.
retype (3) above in address bar.
    005.
What is the window you get and router details?
    006.
    007
what is the modem /router page shown ?

    Hi, Essbebe..

After reading your post, just randomly I typed in the router ip.. and what came up was the teracom page :(

I then disconnected my internet after which I was not able to view the router page at all... there was no effect in the browser once i pressed enter after 192.168.1.1 Tried on different browser windows but still no effect...

Connected to internet and was able to browse. But still the router page alone will not open up. I am terribly confused

Later, rebooted the modem and was able to open up the router page. This time the ITI page came up. Pls. see the ITI router page screenshot in my original post.. It resembled the same.. and I had the same "192.168.1.1" showing under three of the info, namely LAN IP Address, Primary DNS Server, Secondary DNS Server. All these 3 had it had as their values. Only the default gateway option was blank. Is this where the ip is to be displayed? There was no option such as "ip address" on the device info page...

Then connected to the internet and the router page was still the same.
whatismyip showed my ip address as 117.193.246.106

Is my connection hacked or something..? I'm totally confused.

    ----------------------------

Added this reply after 30 mins of time:

Note: I'm online and typing this reply with my Internet connection "Disconnected". !!!

As of now, the router page shown in 192.168.1.1 is the teracom router and an ip address is displayed indeed (with my internet disabled !) However there is an improvement this time around. The ip address displayed in the teracom router page matches with that displayed at whatismyip.com !

Once I connect my Internet through the dialer, the ip address shown on whatismyip.com is different from the one shown on the teracom router page.
Does this get us anywhere ?

I'm sorry for not being able to reply item wise.. cuz I had some difficulty understanding your instructions.. they were too short for me to comprehend... :) Like for example, when you said

"retype (3) above in address bar" I don't know what it meant .. step (3) was to check my ip at What Is My IP Address - Shows Your IP Address.... isn't it?

    005.
What is the window you get and router details?
    006.
    007
what is the modem /router page shown ?

After already getting into the router page in (5), where else should I login again for step (6) ?

    -----------

That apart, I hope you have read my previous post that was edited with additional info. (On how I'm being able to browse even after the interner dialer is disconnected !)

Moving onto the info that was asked...

When typing ipconfig/all (with the internet dialer disconnected), this is what I see:

    YES. you have reported 117.193.246.106
retype it in browser address bar.
then you should get a window like this :
    wait...[IMG]

    this IP is BSNL gateway.

Did you mean I had to enter the dynamic ip 117.193.xxx.xxx itself onto the address bar ?

If so, nothing turns up. Just a blank white screen....

    essbebe LEARNER

switch off your modem and recheck your Dynamic IP.
Hope you got the idea why there are two IP's.
    wait....

( clear your temp internet files/cache etc . Use Ccleaner from filehippo.com
queries about this different thread please )

    Now Post Device Info page:

I am aware that dynamic ip would change naturally when you reboot the modem..

    Situation 1:
But I see two different ip's "when on the same session" itself.
The ip shown on whatismyip.com is different from what is shown on the router page (which by itself is not my router's page !!!!!! - pls. remember this very clearly !)

    Situation 2:
If by chance I get into my ITI router's page (which comes up by chance/luck/random tries) there is no ip listed at all !

    Situation 3:
I'm able to browse the internet even with my internet connection disconnected. (I'm in bridge mode) This possibility of being able to browse with the dialer disconnected is at random only. (Sometimes I'm able to and sometimes it stops to work)

Also, In this situation 3 (and when i'm able to browse the internet) the ip address displayed on the teracom router page matches exactly with the ip shown on whatismyip.com (teracom - not my router at all, i insist).

Thank you very much for analyzing my problem. Its very very irritating even for me..!!

Cleared temp. files, cache, cookies using CCleaner as advised and typed 192.168.1.1 onto the browser window.

The first time, the error message screen on a blue blackground came up. (Screenshot as in my original first post --> router page error.jpeg)

The second time I refreshed the page and the teracom router page came up. Pls. refer the screenshots atached below. split into 2 files to cover up entire page.

Note: None of the information in this page corresponds to my router :(:(
Even the Mac ID is not mine......... :( I cross checked this with the Mac ID printed by BSNL on the sticker beneath my ITI router..........................

No, I don't connect to the internet using wireless nor do I have any wireless devices connected to my PC.
The wireless option on the ITI router is always disabled.
    I use only a desktop.

    Switch to PPP/PPPoE mode
( disable "bridged" in wan page )
Presume your modem/router now is Dna A212 wifi router.

    2.
Check your usage in Bsnl portal.
Download Networx from softperfect.com to check any unusual download.

    You are telling
You have a Desktop Computer and it's LAN port connect to your ITI Router through Cable and there is no Wireless device attached or connect to your Desktop Computer.
When you are browsing http://192.168.1.1 which is your ITI modem GUI pages and it's open only when you are using PPPOE from your Desktop and when you disconnect PPPOE and browsing again http://192.168.1.1 and this time the GUI pages comes up of Router TERACOM and that TERACOM has PPPOE enable where in your ITI has Bridge mode Enable and you said you dont have TERACOM modem or have any CABLE connection with it and even no wireless connection.

You know what This is really funny

Go to your ITI router pages and make sure the wireless connection is disable.
and make sure that if your computer has bluetooth device then disable it.

No, I don't have either of these routers..!!! Mine resembles the one attached below.. (Taken from google images... Not the pic of mine.. but its pretty much the same model)

With regards to PPPoe, the main reason I had changed to bridge mode was to avoid controversies with my actual usage and the ones shown on data one portal... in fact, after changing to bridge mode, that problem hasn't occurred... (remember.. those fake sessions ..!!)

    Absolutely correct.

Yes, you are correct again except for this. It is not that when dialer is disconnected -> I get ITI router page and when dialer is connected -> I get teracom router page. These are completely random.., meaning I might get the ITI page when connected or the teracom page when disconnected.. but mostly 70% of the times I get only the teracom page. I dont have any cable or wireless connection or any association at all :( for that matter with this teracom router. I would like to repeat this again and again.....

I tried and out of the 4-5 tries, got the ITI page just once and yes, the wireless was disabled. My PC has no bluetooth inbuilt nor any bluetooth dongle or wireless devices connected. :(

Yes, it is.... I hope I could take a video or something since I agree that it is hard to believe..! Or it could be something very serious .. that is why im breaking my head over this issue..... please help me resolve this...

It is not required that you should be connected always in PPP/PPPoE mode.
Your problem is unusual and short of exchanging the modem with BSNL,
trying to check whether the same problem exists by trying PPP/PPPoE mode.
